Badla vs Captain Marvel: Who won the box office battle in India on day 1

(Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu's Badla and Brie Larson's Captain Marvel opened in theatres today. And the superhero film has taken a flying start at the box office beating Total Dhamaal and Gully Boy.)

• Badla starring Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu and Amrita Singh opened in theatres today along with the big Hollywood film Captain Marvel. While Badla is the only notable Hindi release, it was expected to face tough competition from Captain Marvel. And exactly the same has happened. Captain Marvel has not only taken a fantastic start at the box office in the morning shows, but it has also become the best opener of the year so far, beating all the Hindi films including Total Dhamaal and Gully Boy(which released on Valentine's Day).

•  Captain Marvel is 45 per cent to 50 per cent. The previous best was Gully Boy, which had taken a 40 percent start but that was on Valentine's Day. Total Dhamaal was 25 per cent to 30 per cent. So, as you can clearly see, Captain Marvel has become the top opener of the year beating all the Hindi films. However, a fantastic morning show occupancy doesn't mean it will beat the opening day figure of Total Dhamaal or Gully Boy as those were wider releases. But, you never know.
